Isuzu NPR Intercooler Install

This intercooler fits really well. I have it mounted solidly by three of the four mounting tabs on the IC. You'll need to remove your AC if you want to install this IC though. The radiator fits nicely in between the inlets and outlets.

Here you can see how well it fits under the hood. It comes close to the alternator but doesn't touch and I even have the larger old-style GLHT alternator. The battery does have to be moved. I haven't figured out what I'm going to do just yet. I'm hoping a smaller garden tractor battery will fit in there sideways. If not I'll look into moving it to the passenger-side wheel well, then lastly to the trunk (hatchback). The radiator did have to be moved 3" to the passenger-side and back towards the engine about 1/2". I'm going to have to use a slim-line fan for clearance. This monster should really cool things down with very little back pressure!

Here is a more recent picture of under the Omni's hood. It's now officially a true "TII" with the intercooler all plumbed in. I paged through the hoses, belts, etc. book at NAPA and after some measuring found the perfect hoses to complete the system. 2 1/2" inlet/outlets on the intercooler tapered to 2 1/4" hoses from the turbo and to the throttle body. I was very pleased with how well it all came together. I'm currently using the stock plastic TI blow-off valve (BOV) which you can see attached to the turbo to IC hose in front of the valve cover. This stock one is working fine with 14psi currently... for how long... no one knows. Two more fine example of my skilled craftsmanship can be seen: one is the plastic zip-ties used to hold the upper radiator and the other is my stellar crankcase ventilation system... aka the hose coming out of the back of the valve cover that goes nowhere! Thankfully my new engine doesn't have any blowby issues.

This is a driver's side shot of my Omni's tightly cramped engine bay. You can see my monster AutoZone 330 cold crankin amp garden tractor battery installation. I had to cut the bend off the power module and alter the battery tray, but it fits well and works great. Love these low compression engines! The radiator overflow bottle even fits. It's almost as if this NPR intercooler were made for the Omni! :) You can also see the brass-colored Grainger valve boost controler just to the left of the brake master cylinder. It's currently sharing the vacuum/boost port off the throttle body with the BOV. I'm planning on a vacuum/boost hose reorganization on my car soon... got the nice silicon blue hose... just need to figure how I'm gonna route it all.

Scarey... Isn't it? Check out my homemade sheetmetal scoop under the bumper. With an intercooler this big, I need all the airflow I can get!
